How Tufnol Rod is made
Tufnol Rod is produced by winding pre-treated sheet very tightly around a small circular mandrill. The rod form is made initially much larger than required and then the mandrill is removed and it is transferred to a rod mould and compressed under high pressure and heat to cure. After the curing process, the rod is removed from the mould and transferred to a centerless machine and ground to the desired diameter. The sheet used and the resin and also the conditions are adjusted along the manufacturing process to produce different grades with different attributes to produce materials for many different applications.
