Because Tufnol produce many grades of Tufnol Rod, there are many applications but Whale Rod is one of the most popular grades and this is a high wear resistant material suited to bearings, bushes and pulleys, it is also known within the marine industry for above waterline applications. The epoxy glass grades offer a higher temperature tolerance and have a lower expansion rate, they also provide greater electrical resistance. The silicone glass grades further improve the resistance to temperature and provide a useful solution in these environments.
Details to remember about Tufnol Rod
Due to the unique manufacturing process that Tufnol is produced in, it is not acceptable to produce gears or washers. The products or components need to be produced from sheet as the laminates are orientated in the correct plain. Tufnol Rod does have a slightly reduced range of available sizes and the very large sizes are more limited in availability.
